Brown Club OC 2018 in Review

2018 has been another year of growth and change for your club including such events as our first family picnic in June and our first holiday party in November.

We were also honored to host some spectacular presentations including an election year discussion on American Democracy presented by Brown Political Science Chair Wendy Schiller (and attended by Brown Master’s Degree holder and Congressman-elect from the 39th District – Gil Cisneros!).

Brown Derbies to perform in Orange County One Night Only-January 17th!

Since 1982, The Brown Derbies have performed and earned renown from Baton Rouge to Beijing, from San Francisco to Switzerland, and from Wayland Arch to the White House!

Over the years the Derbies have changed their repertoire and style, but three things remain true. All Derbies wear the obligatory vest and bowler derby, can sing up a storm and riff you off your feet, and they do it all with a sense of humor and a smile.

Recently touring in London and Switzerland and releasing a single this past fall, The Brown Derbies are back in California to sing, dance, and take refuge from a frigid northeast winter!

Join BCOC for this once-in-four-years opportunity to see the Derbies perform here in Orange County!
Admission: $10 for Adults, Kids and Students are FREE!
Time: 7-8:00 p.m.
Address: 3 Shoreridge, Newport Coast, CA 92657

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A GATED COMMUNITY REQUIRING ADVANCE NOTIFICATION FOR LARGE PARTIES. TO ENSURE ADMISSION, PLEASE REGISTER BY SUNDAY, JANUARY 13, 2019. THANKS!

Andre Willis on Race, Religion and Politics

Andre C. Willis has traveled from the Yale Divinity School to an appointment as assistant professor of religious studies at Brown. The terrain is wide open. This fall, he is teaching a sophomore seminar on Christianity and economic inequality, examining the beliefs — not necessarily religious beliefs — behind the drive toward consumption and wealth, and listening to a variety of voices, not strictly economics. “That’s the can I want to open.”
Brown Club Orange County is proud to host Professor Willis for an insightful discussion about the politics of religious freedom. Come hear him speak at the Sage Hill School Library on Friday, October 12th.
Admission: complimentary and pre-registration is required
Reception starts at 6:30 p.m.
Professor Willis presentation will be from 7-8:00
