Hold the Dates for these BCOC Spring Events
As we “spring
forward” into Daylight Savings Time, Brown Club Orange County is gearing up for
a busy spring 2017 calendar. You will want to “hold the date” for these
upcoming events:
Thursday, April 27th, 6:30-8:30
p.m. BCOC hosts our 2nd Career Panel at Corona del Mar High
School. Accomplished local Brown alumni from the worlds of healthcare, law,
business and media production share their experiences about how Brown prepared
them for their current careers. Alumni, students, parents and friends of Brown
will all enjoy hearing their stories and networking with each other.
Wednesday, May 31 to Sunday, June 4th.
The famous Brown Jabberwocks a capella
singers return to Orange County for two command performances. We are working on
an appearance at the Blue Beet in Newport Wednesday, May 31 and a private venue
concert the following weekend. The Jabberwocks haven’t toured the west coast
since 2013, so you won’t want to miss this rare appearance!
Wednesday, June 7th. 6:30-8:30
p.m. BCOC presents Cornelia Dean ’69, former Science Editor of the New York
Times and Distinguished Visiting Lecturer in Environmental Studies at Brown, discussing
her new book Making Sense of Science: Separating Substance from Spin.
Bokus.com says “Cornelia Dean draws on thirty
years of experience as a science journalist with the New York Times to expose
the flawed reasoning and knowledge gaps that handicap readers with little
background in science."
Publisher’s Weekly finds “Dean’s excellent primer will be welcomed by those who find themselves lost in the fog of rival claims about scientific issues that affect us all.”
Join us for a fascinating and timely discussion of the intersection between evidence-based science, public perception and government policy-making.
